What the Burwood Business Chamber does​
Our main focus is to promote Burwood as a business centre of excellence. We make sure the voice of local business and the local community is heard by those that make decisions about our community. We champion the cause of business with all levels of government. We represent the interests of Burwood and its business community by:
· promoting awareness of the benefits of business in the area

· promoting balanced town planning that takes into account business needs
· ensuring transport, parking and pedestrian facilities meet the needs of the community and businesses
· representing the interests of the business community to government, local government and statutory authorities

Mr Cesar Madrid (President)

Cesar Madrid is the newly elected President of Burwood Business Chamber.
​
Before joining the Chamber, Cesar's professional career spans over 25 years in Telecommunications, Information Communications and OSS Software Technology with combined roles in Sales & Business Development, Sales Operations & Support, Global Bid & Program Management, Business Analyst, Technical Sales/Pre-Sales Technical Operations and Global Partner Alliances.

Cesar also held positions as Business Development/Account Management/Technical & Network Operations Manager/Project Management and Account Development with extensive experience responsible in providing entrepreneurial and results-driven sales operation, business strategies, network technical and operational capabilities, hands-on overall Project Management and pursuit of daily operational business and technical plans to achieve sustainable year-on-year quota and project deliverables whilst promoting new business development and commercially-sensitive corporate assigned projects and management accountability of target revenues, business growth & forecasting, profit margins and operational budget/expenditures.

Cesar is highly competent in the development of global bid management practice, global bid alliances and leadership of sales proposal and contractual definitions. A hands-on manager for operational readiness with innovative and accelerated operational strategies, resource management, customer interaction management and stakeholder governance.
Mr Doug Sutherland (Vice President)
Introduction
Douglas William Sutherland was born on 23 September 1932 at 152 Burwood Road, Croydon Park NSW in the depth of the Great Depression.
At age four his mother suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. As a consequence, his father remarried leading to a blended family with three girls and four boys.
At age 17, immediately after matriculating he contracted poliomyelitis which required hospitalisation for one year and almost a further year for rehabilitation. At the same time, he contracted polio his youngest brother did also, and sadly died.
Occupation and Interests
Doug Sutherland was educated at St Joseph's Catholic Parish School at Enfield NSW then at St Patrick's College, Strathfield, Sydney, and at Macquarie University Sydney and has a degree in Economic and Financial Studies. He has been a Chartered Accountant since 1958 practising in Burwood, Sydney City and the City of Canberra and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand. He was an Executive member of the Local Government Association of NSW for 25 years and President of the Local Government Association of NSW 1981-1983 and in 1991 he was appointed an Inaugural Board Member of Sydney Electricity. He was elected to the Board of the NRMA (National Roads & Motorists Association) on 1 December 2001.
Sutherland & Company has international experience across other accounting jurisdictions such as USA, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
Honours & Awards
He received one of the first Commonwealth Scholarships (of 1000) in Australia based on his 1949 Leaving Certificate (matriculation) results. Mr. Sutherland was made a Member of the Order of Australia (A.M.) in 1979 for services to local government and community. He is a life member of the Australian Labor Party and United Services Union. He has been a Justice of the Peace for the state of New South Wales since 1957.
Community Activity
He was a Scout Leader (Second Ashfield Tenth Catholic Group) for 20 years approx. Mr. Sutherland has been the patron of many organisations including Parents without Partners, the Smith Family, Red Cross Calling Appeals, and the Highland Society of NSW. He is a life governor of the Benevolent Society of NSW and a life member of the Sydney City Mission He was the founding president of the Sydney Harbour Dragon Boat Races and the Sydney International Piano Competition. In January 1986 he was appointed chairman of the Sydney Swans football club. He has been a Vice Patron of Sydney Eisteddfod since 1980 and still is a valued participant.
He was Chairman of Sydney Swans Australian (Rules) Football Club during the eighties.

Local Government Service
Douglas William Sutherland was an Alderman of Burwood Municipal Council (Sydney) from 1959 to 1994, serving as Mayor for three terms. He was also an Alderman of Ashfield Municipal Council (Sydney) from 1975 to 1977. Doug Sutherland was elected to Sydney City Council as Alderman for Kings Cross Ward in September 1977 to September 1980 as Leader of the Opposition. He was then re-elected in 1980 as Lord Mayor of Sydney by popular vote from September 1980 and held of through to 1987. Other committees he was involved with were the Sydney Guangzhou Sister City the first in China - San Francisco Sister City Committee, the Sydney Portsmouth Sister City Committee, Sydney Wellington NZ Sister City Committee and Nagoya City in Japan; the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority, 1982-85 and the Metropolitan Water, Sewerage and Drainage Board, 1963-83.
In Conclusion
Highlights of his Administration of Sydney City Council were:
• Restoration of the Queen Victoria Building one of the City's most successful retailing
centres with a large S1 x 16 integrated car parks.
• Creation of the Pitt Street Mall which today is one of the most successful retail facilities in the World!
• He established the first Access Committee in Australia to cater for the special needs of-those with disabilities, especially mobility.
Mr Yateender Gupta (Treasurer)
Yateender Gupta, FCPA is a SMSF Specialist and SMSF registered Auditor. He is running an Accounting Practice in Burwood. He also specilaise in Business Setup (Business Structuring) and advice, Small Business Concession.

Yateender is the Founding Chairman of Australian Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and currently serving as its Chief Mentor. He made a significant contribution in MRA with CPA Australia and CA Australia & NZ. Amongst other he maintains relationship with CPA Australia and CA Australia & NZ on ongoing basis. www.icai.org.au

He is a Senior Accountant with 29 years of experience in Accounting & Taxation and an ASIC registered Self-Managed Superannuation Fund Auditor.

He is also the Chairman of CPA’s Innerwest Accountants Group in Sydney.

In 2013, Yateender received the CPA NSW President’s Award for Excellence in Service and Leadership to CPA Australia and accounting profession.

Since 2011, he has been serving as Treasurer of Burwood Business Chamber.
​
In 2009, Yateender started ASSOCHAM Australia with the aim of increasing business collaboration between Australia and India. ASSOCHAM Australia is a branch of ASSOCHAM India, which is one of the largest business chambers in India with 400,000 businesses as its members.
